7/1/2014 - Changes to the County's Curbside Recycling Collection Coming Soon

CHANGES TO THE COUNTY’S CURBSIDE RECYCLING COLLECTION SCHEDULE COMING SOON

Effective July 1st changes to Mercer County's curbside recycling collection schedule will take effect. In Hamilton Township there will no longer be a Saturday collection, the new collection day will be every other Wednesday, beginning July 9th. The City of Trenton will no longer have separate collection zones. The entire City will be collected on the same day, every other Wednesday, beginning July 2nd. In West Windsor Township there will no longer be a Saturday collection, the new collection day will be every other Thursday, beginning July 3rd. All participating towns in the county’s curbside recycling program will have their holiday makeup day switched to Saturday rather than Sunday. For example, if a resident’s collection day falls on a holiday, collection will be the following Saturday.

“The new recycling schedule will result in enhanced recycling services for all participants. Eliminating regular weekend collection results in a cleaner residential community when most family and community activities take place. In addition, it allows for a quicker response if a resident’s recyclables are mistakenly missed because the recyclables will be collected during the normal work week. We look forward to working with our towns to provide reliable, high-quality recycling services,” stated Phillip S. Miller, MCIA’s Executive Director.

In order for a smooth transition, the Mercer County Improvement Authority plans to inform residents of the new changes through various media such as newspapers, websites, social media and My Waste App. Now may be a good time for residents to download the My Waste App if they haven’t already done so. Reminders can be set for their new collection day. Residents can download the My Waste App from their favorite App store or at www.mcianj.org. In addition, participating towns will be notifying their residents of the changes.

Old collection days will be honored for the first couple of weeks. When residents place their buckets at the curb on the old collection day, residents will receive a flyer advising them of the recent change. “The Mercer County Improvement Authority is committed to providing fast and efficient recycling services to all of its participating towns, and that commitment will continue when the new schedule takes effect,” said Daniel Napoleon, MCIA’s Chief of Recycling. We will work closely with the towns and Central Jersey Waste and Recycling, our contractor, to ensure a smooth and well-publicized transition.” For more information or any questions, please call the MCIA’s Recycling Department at 609 278-8086.  For the Revised Mercer County Curbside Recycling Calendar, click here.
